Re: Ethics: medical vs. clerical

Bob

You and Ron call me an atheist among other names. I don't promote any other religious faith/philosophy/belief system. I DO promote the study of the historical context/beliefs that the Bible came from. You deny, deny, deny the facts, then think you are a winner somehow by reverting to ad hominems by throwing atheist, old & senile, etc around instead of making a valid point.

If Ryan were to deem me a detriment to the board he is welcome to delete me from the system.

I think, from the FACTS, that you constantly violate the first 5 rules he recently posted so I'm not sure what you are gaining here by pointing out the splinter in someone else's eye.

As a former SDA with a retired minister FIL, BIL chaplain, a relative who was a former provost of Andrews, etc AND as someone that has, unlike you, actually READ THE BIBLE some people here feel that I do contribute to the breadth and depth of the discussions.

For the last year or so I rarely have more than enough time to respond to your trivial cut & paste jobs here (see rule #4).

<!-quote-!>quote:
Maggie

I was able to finish the youtube series with Hitchens, et al.

A great conversation between great minds/thinkers.

Thanks again for the link.

I am looking forward to the results of the research Harris is working on. Could be very enlightening.

One point that Dennett made about the dissemination of truth not necessarily being a good idea in all cases... I personally feel that there is a difference in withholding the sequencing of a deadly virus and being silent when a known falsehood is propagated by dogmatists. I am firmly in line with the opinion of Dawkins and Hitchens on that score.

They spoke about Victor Stenger's book at length. I went to a small gathering last summer where he spoke about various topics. I like his style and thought processes very much. He lives in Boulder and shows up from time to time at public events in town. If you get a chance read his God: A Failed Hypothesis.

Later....<!-/quote-!>

If this isn't promoting another philosophy, what is. No wonder Maggie was so petrified. I saw no sign of Neal trying to calm her down, if anything, it goes along with atheistic thought, "How can you love such a God????"

Yoor call.

If this isn't promoting another philosophy, what is.

Could you please point out where the philosophy part is?

The name of a book?

I also went to see Steve Forbes a couple of months ago. So what. I read Forbes and like his flat tax idea so its promoting another philosophy (non-communism)?

Come back with something that is meaningful to us.

Re: Ethics: medical vs. clerical

Everyone:

I closed the thread since it has continued to stray off topic.

I have personally communicated with Bob about the concerns some of you have about him. Nevertheless, the bickering and goading is coming from more than Bob, though I do believe he is the cause of it in this thread (please refer to the Edit below). With that said publicly, I expect a little bickering here and there, but not to the extent that I found on this thread. This is just silly and immature.

Bob: Please lay off the agression.
Maggie, Neal: Please ignore Bob.

Pretty simple.

I am off to class. I will check back in an hour or so and see how things are. The first temporary ban may occur then.

If you have questions, e-mail me. I hope all of us can get along well enough so that we can have intelligent dialogue.

Edit: I see now that Bob was not the sole cause of the firstorm that erupted in this thread. Maggie, Elaine: As far as I'm concerned, you two began the bickering (we've been using this word a lot). Bob's first post in this thread at least had something to do with Adventism. I recognize that Bob had no problem jumping at your bait and then getting Neal involved, but all of you need to line up your maturity with your ages.

Ryan

(Message edited by admin on February 23, 2009)

(Message edited by admin on February 23, 2009)
