John Travolta's son dies in Bahamas

Lacking a News Section or Current Events here, I thought I would put this news story here:

<!-quote-!>quote:
NASSAU (Reuters) – The teenage son of actor John Travolta died suddenly on Friday during a family vacation in the Bahamas, according to police and the family's lawyer.

Jett Travolta, 16, suffered a seizure at his family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay resort on Grand Bahama Island, attorney Michael Ossi said.

The teen apparently hit his head and a caretaker found him unconscious in the bathroom on Friday morning. He was taken by ambulance to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, where he was pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Department.

Jett, who had a history of seizures, was the eldest child of Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston. They also have an 8-year-old daughter, Ella.

An autopsy was pending, police said.

The family, who have homes in California and Florida, arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday by private plane, police said.

<!-/quote-!>

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_travolta

How sad, their only boy!!!

Re: John Travolta's son dies in Bahamas

More on this unfortunate death:

<!-quote-!>quote:
Jett Travolta had a developmental disability that his parents, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, have linked to Kawasaki disease, an inflammatory disorder of the artery walls that most commonly occurs in young children and can lead to heart disease.

In 2001, John Travolta told CNN's Larry King that his son had a near brush with death related to the condition.

"I was obsessive about cleaning -- his space being clean, so we constantly had the carpets cleaned. And I think, between him, the fumes and walking around, maybe picking up pieces or something, he got what is rarely a thing to deal with, but it's Kawasaki syndrome," Travolta said of his then-2-year-old son. Watch Travolta talk about his son's condition »

"It was that the immune system overreacts, because they have almost the equivalent of metallic chemical," Travolta said.

According to the American Heart Association, "About 80 percent of the people with Kawasaki disease are under age 5. Children over age 8 are rarely affected."

The causes of Kawasaki disease are unknown. Some scientists think it's caused by an infectious agent, such as a virus. Some studies have noted a link between the disease and carpet cleaning chemicals.

<!-/quote-!>

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/02/obit. jett.travolta/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
