A word that is mentioned in the Bible six times is not allowed here, so let's try a substitute:
"ell" and see if that gets by.

Did God create ell?

Will serial murderers and child molesters be sent there along with someone who picked up sticks on the Sabbath or sneaked in a little s*x before marriage?

Is it to rehabilitate sinners? To be a lesson?
To whom? Will a two-day old baby, who is a sinner from birth, also be sent there because of original sin? Does ell exist as fear toward goodness? How effective is it?

Elaine, you suffer from the same problem Maggie did/does. She is more concerned about what happens to those who turn down God's gift of salvation rather than marvelling in the gift and what that will mean. My preference. Sin will be purged, has to be purged, I don't dwell on it too much like imagining a child of an evil man being burnt alive. Maybe Jesus will judge those shy of the age of accountability to be innocents, maybe not, but I do not spend my day visualizing a child being burnt alive, if God in His ultimate justice, a trait of His, sees fit that should happen to purify sin, God is all powerful, and just, and righteous. Your mind Elaine and my mind are not near what His is, so, I personally will have faith in Jesus the righteous judge, since God has given the task of judge to Jesus.

How does Matt 5:32 fit into this conversation, Elaine???

You tell me, it doesn't.

Some of us don't have a worry about the future. Whatever will be, will be. If we try to live by the Golden Rule, worrying helps not at all. Read the last part of Matt. 25 to see who will enter heaven. There's not one word about belief, only right action, regardless.

interesting,Bob , eh? speaking in Canadian...
that you should pick out Matt 5 as your new area of concern:

matt 5:22
"But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.

And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire. ..... and there remember that your brother has something against you,

First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

25 "Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

hmmmmmmm........

(Message edited by john8verse32 on April 11, 2009)
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

John, I asked about verse 32 because Elaine put it in the thread title which puzzled me and still does without an answer from her or you.

Good deeds are accomplished by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, given as a gift after belief in Jesus Christ. You and Elaine wish to only study and point to verses out of context, the Bible if studied shows how to obtain salvation. You guys are out to gut the very document that lays out salvation. Puzzles the heck out of me, unless you guys want to share with us what you have found out about salvation from your own private thinking and libraries. Eh???

Empathy is one of the most important of all the characteristics of man. Some people have it and some don't.

Empathy makes you cry for the burning death of a helpless little baby. You feel the agony and pain. Empathy brings tears to your eyes over the death of a little ground squirrel hit by a car.

I think Moses had that empathy when he begged God to save his people. When he said he would give up eternity if God would save them.

Empathy is what caused Jesus to decide to die on the cross for all humanity.

renie

Do you have empathy for those that planned 9/11?? Their stay in Gitmo??? Ok, lets determine another location for them. How's the empathy now, they still aren't happy, in fact still hateful of America and all it stands for, they would kill you if you were in their way, still empathy for them???

You'll think I am crazy, but I DO have empathy for them. Something in their lives brought them to the place where they could hate as they did. Was it hatred for Christianity? I would give a lot to be able to talk to them someday and ask them where such anger came from.

There is a limit to my empathy though. I would take a gun and go after someone who abused and killed my little grandson or grandaughter. I wouldn't take the time to get to know that person, I wouldn't care if I went to prison or not. I would take care of matters myself.

Maybe there was that kind of knee-jerk reaction from those who planned 9/11.

renie

Hey, Isaac and Ishmael is an old story with no reversal about to happen. The Jews were the favored people, they failed in their covenant with God now it is spiritual Israel. If I was a Muslim, I'd either be mad and kill or convert. What' the chances of a mass conversion.

Now how's your empathy meter???
