I give up, there are no pictures in the book that I can see. It looks like a happy breast feeding mother, with baby about to fall asleep.

The woman is giving of herself to perpetuate life.
Jesus gave of himself to perpetuate life.
The baby feeds of it's mother's milk which is nourishment that is necessary for growth and contains antibodies that ward off disease. Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit, and through His word, Spiritual nourishment which contains Spiritual "antibodies" for growth and wards off spiritual disease/sin.

And as we mature off of this Spiritual nourishment that is freely given to us, we in turn freely give unto others. The words we speak and the actions we make, if we daily are fed and grow of the Spiritual milk, will be of "life unto life" and not "death unto death".

I just, on second look, noticed the weapon that the fellow behind the mother is carrying. Yet, although turmoil is close at hand, she is able to live and exude a spirit of joy. When we are in continual communion with heaven, the same experience is ours.

"Great peace have they which love they law, and nothing shall offend them". Psalm 119:165

"When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him". Prov. 16:7

why use the pic? because it is so easy these days to copy them off the net.... and use them as illustrations of whatever the author is promoting....

like this probably well intentioned guy
http://www.yachana.org/sabbatical/mujer.php
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Take a closer look.

Apparently, this was used as a propaganda poster by the Sandinistas in the 1980's. Notice that not only do the ones behind her have guns but she also has a machine gun draped over her shoulder. It is even pointed out that the color white was intentional because white represents purity of motives.

Bob, you are correct, the book does not show this picture but the author, Julia Lambert Fogg (pages 3,4), says she uses this picture to show the importance of context when seeking to understand the "text" of Scripture. (I hunted down the picture once learning how Fogg used it.)

Here is another artistic work depicting this same woman, I think. Note the change in color. White is removed in the artwork and replaced mostly with red. Is it possible that the artist intentionally conveys a different message with the use of red?

(Message edited by Don on December 05, 2009)

"the weapon that the fellow behind the mother is carrying"

CORRECTION!!!

SHE is carrying the weapon. That's even better.

Eph 6:17... "take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints"
