Important questions about the future of ATomorrow!

I've noticed the dearth of new posts on this board and I am wondering if it's because I switched from Discus Pro to this new board.  I admit I made some mistakes when converting from the old board to this new one.  For example, I was unprepared when two major surprises occurred on two different fronts.  I've spent the night just wishing I had left alone what wasn't broken.

But here we are.

If you ladies and gentlemen want the old forum back, please let me know.  I've been waiting for some sort of response so I that I would know how to proceed, but I am more than willing to revert back to Discus Pro.  It will take some hard work, but I'm willing to do it because 1) It's my responsibility and duty; and 2) I like having dialogue, instead of emptiness, on ATomorrow.  I need to know by Saturday, however, as this will involve the website's hosting company updating from a backup they made last Sunday.

If you are fine with this new board, please let me know, too.  Again, I like having dialogue instead of emptiness, and if the lack of conversations is my fault, let me know what I can do to fix it.  I understand that the way the old posts converted to this new board (full of HTML that makes many of them almost incomprehensible) is a huge hurdle.  This can be fixed, and will be if we stick with this new board!

The important thing is that all of the posts--every single one--from the creation of www.atomorrow.net (going back to December 2008) are intact and now exist in two forms.  This is very good.

Like I've said earlier, this new board will, in my opinion, be good for ATomorrow as a whole, but it will take some getting used to and some teamwork.

Perhaps you feel like it's time to move on from ATomorrow, that this switch from the old board to the new board is a good time to call it quits.  That may be.  But, I will do whatever it takes to keep this board alive.  This may sound weird to you, but I really do like ATomorrow and the place it has filled and has the potential to fill in the future.  I hope you will continue to join me.

Cheers,

Ryan

Ryan, what is the "answer" step for before posting? Do you just say hello as it asks. Sort of confusing. I didn't do it once, no post resulted, I did say Hello and then I got a post. Any explanation?

Also, what does "STICKY" mean??

Here is a helpful tidbit to make access to the new format easier.

1. Login
2. Go to Active Topics
3. Put your cursor in the blue space at the top of the page
4. Right click your mouse
5. Choose "Create a Shortcut"

An Icon will appear on your desktop so you can get into the new Atomorrow format easier.

Bob:

I have taken off the question requirement before posting and have replaced it with a CAPTCHA requirement for registrations and guest posting.

STICKY means the post stays at the top of the list of posts.

Re: Important questions about the future of ATomorrow!

Hi Ryan,

In many respects the new forum is very different, so it simply doesn't work they way we are used to. Once we become more familiar with the new features it should get easier.

One thing I find confusing is that if I go to a topic before logging in (and I usually do), and then decide I would like to respond and I do log in, then I for an unexplained reason I am next directed to a totally different topic, instead of being returned to the same one. This is very annoying, and hopefully can be fixed.

Re: Important questions about the future of ATomorrow!

Hi Ryan,

If I had a "wish list" I would include more options in the BBCode in making posts.  Some other forums have quite a large list of options compared to what we have.  I checked with the website for this hosting company, and they do not have any way at present to increase the BBCode options.  But any good programmer should be able to get the more extensive list- even if he had to pay for it from another source.

About the emptiness, it may be a bit early to say that  it will stay empty.  We may just need more time to all get back in again.  If we could get some scholars to post it would really increase interest, but that has been a difficult situation all along.  Would Adventist Forums / Spectrum be at all interested?  Or Adventist Today?

We have to face another aspect of this:  Forums have multiplied a lot in the recent year or two.  AND now we have competition from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, chat rooms, Podcasts, etc.  We may have to consider other features to add interest, or consider that the competition is too much and join them!

Ryan,
Just another note:

If you have five active members, you will have an active forum.   And I believe that we have at least that number.

This thread (http://www.atomorrow.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=727) should help.  Other forums that have a large list of options are most likely purchased software.

Hmm, not sure why this happened for you.  I tried and I was able to log in and not be teleported to a different topic.
